Genetics.... where do you fall?

Genetics.... where do you fall?

Genetics...

The importance of knowing your genetics is SOOOO crucial. Now I could literally make this blog over 3000 (ended up being 1500 lol) words long and talk on and on about this topic. But instead I am going to make it somewhat concise, and break it down into smaller parts. I have even perfected (not really) a formula that you can use to break down how much effort you are going to have to put into training, diet, supplementation, etc. I will dive into this formula in the future, because I feel like it could be groundbreaking but without further ado let's gooooo!

So before I dive into things I want to get a background brief on what I mean by “genetics”. So there are 6 levels of the genetic pool: We’ll name them as this in descending order. God Genetics, Crazy Genetics, Good Genetics, OK Genetics, Bad Genetics, Shit Genetics, and then there's one that is very rare but I will mention because it is possible is the sense of a disability or genetic error that true medical advice is needed to lose weight ( but for 99.9999) percent of you that won’t apply to.

Genetics can be broken down into multiple categories as well. Genetics can be broken down into things like how much food (food tolerance) you can eat/ little food and make progress. This basically means how loosely you can stick to a diet. Your structure which affects your look, tall lanky, short and stocky, middle range but short torso, short but long torso, tall with short torso, etc etc. You want to be proportionate, if you are tall and have long arms that fit better, instead of being short with long arms or whatever other body part. Structure also affects how big/ small your joints are. For example big waist, small waist, shoulders broad/ shoulders narrow. Next will be the actual muscle themselves, this is all subjective. But some people like having muscles that look more “bubbly” looking over muscle that looks “hard”, vice versa. Furthermore, there comes an aspect of training and recovery that comes into play, now this is not as “important” as the others but it is still a thing in my opinion. Some people just do better training heavier and less than others, while others do well with a lot of stimulus. Some can’t recover from 6 days a week, while others need 6 days a week to do and look well. Now there are a million more factors that can come into play with genetics but those are some that I wanted to keep in mind when thinking “genetics”

So a lot of you guys probably have good genetics which means you can pretty much make good progress by just adding effort into any area of your training, diet, sleep or cutting back on external distractions like alcohol or cheating on your diet. It also means you typically gain muscle somewhat quickly when the effort is there and it isn’t impossible to get in really good shape if you fix the things you lack in.

Next a lot of you probably fall into the OK genetic pool as well, which means that you are like me (oldschool). You can make some pretty good progress but it's going to be put in what you get out. If you put in a shit ton of work people can mistake you for being in that genetic elite, but if you don’t then you’ll typically not progress well. Usually people in this pool have good features but are balanced out with bad ones. So this might mean that you can get really big and strong quick, but you have a long torso and big waist, etc. The combinations are endless. But typically you get 1-2 things that are bad and for the most part you can still be AMAZING!

Next as much as some of us have good genetics, some unfortunately have bad genetics. Now i regret getting into this because I don’t want anyone to be “discouraged” by not having good genetics. Importantly, I don’t want you to make excuses if you don’t have “good genetics” to make results. Anyone can make results with good, bad, ok and even shit genetics. Typically people who have bad genetics, like those with good genetics have some great traits, for example they are taller and proportionate. But they lack one key trait to either gain muscle or lose fat, etc. A lot of times these people need to just focus their efforts on the thing they are “bad” at and hit it with 120 percent. Typically a person with bad genetics needs to be doing more cardio than others and needs to be doing more training then others. They can’t get away with over excessive amounts of alcohol and their diet needs to be more on point then others. However, I have seen people with “bad genetics' ' look incredible, more incredible than those with crazy genetics or good genetics, just because of their persistence and effort. So do not be discouraged with that!

Next well move into the 2 genetic levels that pertain to maybe 5-10 out of every 100 of you on either side. So this is crazy genetics for the positive side. Crazy genetics just means that everything is perfect, and you can basically look at weights and grow. Once you put the effort in the gym your body will carry you 100 percent of the way. If you eat just a little better you will then blow up to be a beast. This also means you have a tiny waist and wide shoulders. Big full arms with small joints and big bubbly shoulders. If you have crazy genetics, you can slack off and still look better than 90 percent of the people out there. However, the issue with this is that people with crazy genetics are typically lazier and slack off majorly in one area. This is stupid because they have the ability to be FANTASTIC! People with crazy genetics are typically given the gifts to be phenomenal not only in the gym (looking good and being strong) but in other areas too like sports and what not.

Next to the opposite side of the spectrum is the 5-10 guys who have shit genetics. Now this goes to be the same as having “bad genetics” typically when you have shit genetics you know. This means that you struggle in almost every aspect of the gym. Which means you have to do 45-1 hour of cardio a day just to stay somewhat in shape, your structure sucks, and you have a bad mindset about things. It is really easy to make this as an excuse when you are on this side but you CAN’T LET IT CONSUME YOU. You need to recognize that you need to do more work than everyone else, but a piece of advice is to make sure that you have pride in that. If you can fire yourself up enough and really care about your personal health and fitness, you can, with shit genetics, look and perform with someone that has good genetics, and even crazy genetics if you give it everything you got.

Now the last two I won’t really go into that much because 1 out of every 1000 people may fall into this category. The first being god genetics , this basically means that you have muscle and are strong without ever walking into the gym. This means that you can go to play any professional sport or become a Mr. Olympia competitor. I may know one person with this level of genetics, and even then I don’t know if they are to that level. God genetics is someone like Ronnie Coleman, Anthony Joshua, or DK Metcalf. Someone that completely has every single gift and more, they are driven on top of all the physical gifts! Next I wouldn’t even classify this as a genetic group because it is rare and typically requires a lot of work and more importantly medical attention. We’ll call this Do not enter genetics meaning you have something that neurologically/physically/ chemically stops you from performing or getting results. An example of this is those who are morbidly obese (not by choice) that have a chemical and physiological deficiency in their body. However, there are some people who think they have this area of genetics but either are extremely lazy and self destructive, or have caused their genetics to “change” on themselves.

Well now that we have been through the loop of genetics and its importance I want to wrap things up. If you have good genetics, or even crazy genetics take advantage of what you got! Don’t slack off and be left behind because you fail to work 10 percent harder. Secondly if you fall on the other side of things, make sure to understand your place, and work even harder! I hope you guys are enjoying your week! I hope you learned something from our weekly blog. Also hit us up on social media if you want us to objectively judge your genetic level!
